Vishwakarma Puja or Vishwakarma Jayanti is a day celebrating the divine architect, Vishwakarma. The festival is celebrated on the last day on the Bengali month of Bhadra also known as Kanya Sankranti.

The festival of Vishwakarma Puja is primarily observed in industrial areas and factories. Apart from the engineering and architectural communities, the day is also celebrated by craftsmen, artisans, mechanics, welders and others. People pray to Lord Vishwakarma for a safe working environment, better future and success in their respective fields. Devotees also worship their tools.

About Lord Vishwakarma

Lord Vishwakarma is known as the divine architect and engineer of the Universe. He is considered the chief deity of all engineers and architects.

He was born to Vasu Prabhasa and Yoga Siddha. He is believed to have emerged from Samudra Manthan. The Rig Veda describes him as the master of Sthapatya Veda, the science of engineering, mechanics and architecture.

As the divine architect, Lord Vishwakarma is believed to have constructed the holy city of Dwarka, Lord Krishna’s kingdom. He is also the creator of the weapons used by the Gods (Devtas) and their warriors.

Vishwakarma is usually seen adorning gold jewelry and wearing a crown. In his hands, he is seen holding a book, a water pot, craftsman’s tools and a noose.

Lord Vishwakarma bestows his blessings and grants his devotees who worship him with efficiency, knowledge, working skills and flourishes business and provides success.

Machines and equipment that are worshipped on this day are not to be used.
