Navratri is a Hindu festival where the nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped for 9 days. It is believed during Sharadiya Navratri Goddess Durga in one of her ferocious forms killed the demon Mahishasura.

Description:

Navratri is a Hindu festival where the nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped for 9 days. It is believed during Sharadiya Navratri Goddess Durga in one of her ferocious forms killed the demon Mahishasura.

Apart for Goddess Durga, the nine forms of the Goddess are worshipped during Navratri which are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

Navratri Date and Time

Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana on the first day of the Ashwin Lunar month. A Kalash is installed on the Ghatasthapana day which is immersed on the tenth day.

Navratri Colors

The colors of Navratri are dedicated to the nine personifications of Goddess Durga. All nine days of Navratri are celebrated in different colors. The first color of Navratri is decided based on the day the festival begins. The remaining colors follow a fixed pattern. Women adorn themselves with the specific color for each day of Navratri.
